Meet TECHO

Today over 200 million people live in poverty in Latin America and the Caribbean. No proper home, no potable water, sewage, or electricity access. 

TECHO’s mission is to change that reality, working to create system-changing solutions to end poverty and shape a future we all want to live in. 

TECHO works across 18 countries in the region to improve housing, health, and community infrastructure development. TECHO also empowers volunteers to play a critical role by experiencing the opportunity to build emergency houses hand-in-hand with the families and engage in a life-transforming experience for both.

NOTE: all donations made using the donation button on this page will go to TECHO (American Friends of Un Techo Para Mi Pais), an IRS-recognized U.S. public charity with a valid 501c3 status, to support the organization’s mission. Donations made using the donation button on this page will not add points to any Roof of Hope competition participants. Where does your donation go?
The Project
With your contribution to Roof of Hope, TECHO will be able to give these five families a new home. It takes two full days to build the house. The home stands on 12 piles and is raised from the ground to protect from moisture, floods, and pests. The home is made out of prefabricated wood panels, which allows beneficiary families and volunteers to participate in the construction without considerable technical training.
The Impact
TECHO will use all donations raised by the participants in this competition to build them a new home. If this campaign exceeds the fundraising target needed to build houses for the five families listed as beneficiaries, TECHO will use the surplus to support the construction of new homes for other needy families.
